What people are saying

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A remarkable book on many counts. A formidable piece of research. An astonishing psychological portrait  of power and the people who wield it, then, and, you soon realise, now.. An account of the foundation of ecclesiasticism   and , for those who are  involved, about the development of the transnational  banking process.  It is a treasure of a book for history buffs, a wellspring of exposure of facts you didn’t know you needed, but now cannot do without.. It even recounts a matter of fact explanation of how the symbol of the rose grew into the recitation of the rosary for people in certain church groups. Barbara Alleyne has written an extraordinary ‘not to be missed’ book that will have you waiting  and hoping for a sequel.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

True Love Waits  is a remarkable book of historical fiction in which Barbara Alleyne brings her cast of characters to life with sympathy and exactitude. Crafted in beautiful and measured prose, she draws us into an intriguing tale of courtly love set within a sweeping panorama of the religious and geo-political conflicts that proliferated during the time of the crusades.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The connection to the present day is what makes True Loves Waits a compelling read for anyone interested in the human condition – a book that intricately weaves historical narratives with therapeutic insights. This belief in the therapeutic power of storytelling permeates her work. Barbara Alleyne’s True Love Waits is more than a historical exploration. It is a testament to the enduring relevance of personal narratives and the profound impact historical figures have on our understanding of love, power and resilience.

Born in the UK, I studied English Literature at the University of York – a magical medieval city where my love of the Middle Ages took root. The course on medieval literature was held in the dark-paneled Tudor rooms of King’s Manor. There I read ‘The Romance of the Rose’ and ‘The Allegory of Love’.

After university I set off in a new direction and trained as a psychotherapist in London. I worked as part of a team in two busy General Practices in south and east London.

I came to live in this beautiful island over 30 years age with my Trini husband and two sons. I opened my practice and have continued ever since, working among a nation of people of astonishing diversity. Our anthem says, ‘here every creed and race find an equal place’, and it’s almost true, celebrated in a culture of amazing energy and creativity.
